Bigger Faith, Smaller Mountain

What if we could see life through the eyes of God? What if we could know His thoughts every time He makes a decision? What if we could see His complete and perfect plan? It would make life much easier, wouldn’t it? The fact is, I’ve known God to share His heart with His children as the following Scripture says: Jeremiah 33:3 Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know. But I’ve also known God as the One who asks us to trust even though we cannot see. In my mind and in my heart, I have this realization that some of the things God holds inside His heart and in His mind, would be difficult to comprehend. Such an amazing example can be found in John 3 where Jesus and Nicodemus are in deep conversation about being born again. Nicodemus had some trouble understanding how this could be and Jesus said: “You are Israel’s teacher”… “and you do not understand these things?” God shares wonderful things with HIs children, yet it takes time to understand them and then there are things that God does not share. The things in which we need to have this very little, but powerful word: FAITH! Faith is transparent. It is never tangible. The world cannot see it, yet, it can be contained within our spirit. Just like the Holy Spirit that cannot be seen, but we know He is there. Because we see the affect. Just like the wind. We cannot see wind, but we see the affect when the trees move. If you are anything like me, this can puzzle your mind to the point of shrugging your shoulders! Let’s not go too deep into the terminology, but let’s address the large elephant in the room. We know we have faith. But why, oh why, is it so hard to keep it when storms hit? Hebrews 11:1 – Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see. Do you know what hit me hard about this Scripture? The word ‘certainty’. Being certain of something is knowing that you know a thing to be true. It cannot go any deeper than that! Have you ever been so certain of something? Let’s look at our storm or our troubles or anything that you are dealing with right now where it seems hard to have faith… We’ll paint a picture with it. In the form of a mountain. You are standing in front of this mountain with the task to climb it out. A very natural perspective you could have in your humanity will revolve around the size of this mountain. Immediately, you will measure your ability to climb this mountain out by the size of it. The bigger it seems to you, the less confident you will be about your ability to overcome it. Perspective is the window through which you view something. If you want today’s truth to change your life, let me introduce you to something you might not have pursued yet. A GODLY PERSPECTIVE! There is a completely different perspective with which you can view your life and in specific, your mountain! Imagine looking at your mountain through God’s eyes! You are asking: how can this be? Puzzled, just like Nicodemus… In the beginning of this blog, I mentioned that God shares unsearchable things, but not all of it. Some of the things require faith only, even though we can’t see. Good news! A Godly perspective is one of the things that we can have! Even today! Even in your deepest storm. Even when facing that giant mountain in front of you. Look at this golden Scripture: Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Do not look at your mountain, look higher! Look to God. The One who is much larger than this mountain. The One who could just blow on this mountain, and it would lift itself and throw itself into the sea. Ever heard of the phrase – enough faith to move mountains. Here’s the secret. It’s not about what you can do. It’s about what God can do. I think, many times, we see faith as something that empowers us as humans. When, actually, it is something that we can contain that empowers God to do what only He can do. (Not that He would need any empowerment, because He is who He is.) A very practical thing to do in this case, is to apply this truth with real situations. One time, I received such a beautiful comfort from God through a sermon. I was in a season of feeling down about having to pray alone all the time. Feeling as if I am left to carry my family in prayer all by myself. Through this sermon, which was about Jesus finding Peter and the others asleep after asking them to pray as well, He gave me this conformation that He knows and understands what it feels like to pray alone. And so, I can list many things. Things that you might naturally see as mountains too high to climb… If you are rejected by anyone, Jesus Christ has tasted the spit of rejection in His beautiful face. When you are going through unimaginable pain, Jesus Christ could write a million books about torment. When you are struggling with financial issues, Jesus Christ lived according to His Father’s will in a ministry where provision could never be compared to the riches He had in heaven. If you have lost a loved one, read about the reaction that Jesus had when the news about John the Baptist’s death reached Him. Do you want another example? Even one that can shake you to the core? Jesus, too, had to climb out a mountain. Jesus Christ had to go to Golgotha to be crucified. He had to carry His own cross and not in a state that anyone would wish to be in. He was beaten beyond recognition and still had to bare His cross all the way to Golgotha. THERE IS NO MOUNTAIN THAT SURPRISES GOD IN ANY WAY! Choose today to put away any thought of measurement towards the mountain you are facing and look higher! That’s faith! Faith is not a warm fuzzy feeling. Faith is not being in control. Faith is not feeling as if you have some kind of power. Faith is trusting that God has the power to pull you through. We need to stop believing in our own abilities and we need to redirect our belief to the One who is worth believing in! And when that faith rises, the mountain in front of you will start shrinking. For, even the mountain has to obey the One who created the universe! Let me leave you with today’s encouraging Scripture: Deuteronomy 31:8 The Lord Himself goes before you; He will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.
