I Stand In Amazement

One early morning, as I walked outside to enjoy my quiet time with the Lord, I realized how fresh the air smelled. Everything felt new. With a limited human mind, I wondered how God was able to do this every single morning. Dare I even wonder in what way He made this happen? I guess science will have some answer to this. Yet, the law of nature will never take away my amazement towards the hand of God working in everything around us.
I don’t think there will ever come a day, where we could close up a box and write a label on it that says: “This is how God works.” I also don’t think there is a life time long enough to testify to everything that God does. He keeps on amazing me. He keeps on doing new things. And just when you think that you’ve worked it out in your mind, God reveals yet another mystery.
The day I start worrying about my relationship with God, is the day it feels like I’m getting ‘used to’ Him. While it is in our nature to get ‘used to’ things and people, I would like to call on every Christian who decided to devote their lives to Him, to never get ‘used to’ what He does. The amazement He filled us with the day we called on His name, should still be the exact same thing we wake up with every morning.
If you are reading this and you have never pursued a life in Christ, please do not settle on the things you might think of Him. Do not settle on the things you’ve heard about Him. If they were bad, read the Word for yourself. If they were good, know that it is only partial truth.
God is infinite. God has the type of love for us that I will never understand. For He loves the sinner. He looks beyond our flaws and loves us even with our blemishes. He leaves the 99 to go after the one. And when we realize our mistakes and run back to Him, He awaits us with open arms. He takes us and cleanses us so we could become holy and righteous. He carefully forms us as we go through the stages of life. He takes us by the hand and shows us how to live a life for His glory. The things that He allows us to inherit, goes beyond the riches that this world could ever give. Because it is eternal and cannot be destroyed by humans. God is above the kings and governments of this world. He places them and removes them as He likes. God’s ability does not have any limits. He makes the blind to see. He raises the dead. He shuts the mouths of lions. He saves people from flames.
In our broken and fallen world, many have asked to see miracles. Many have desired to see something that could revive the faith they once had. If God were to choose to send revival in that way, then so be it. But revival comes through something much deeper than that. It begins when your relationship with God is spiritually intimate.
I am persuaded that many have lost their amazement of God. Many have settled for legalism. Many have Sunday church on their calendars, yet they are still not part of God’s church. Many are Christians only by name. Oh, how I pray that someone would read this and open their eyes to the desert they are in.
May we all realize that a life of amazement towards God is not an option, but a necessity. May we understand that it’s okay to want to see God’s hand at work. But may we realize that amazement happens all the more when we choose to look with our spirit. May we at the same time be quenched of our thirst, yet never seize to thirst after Him. May we become child-like in our walk with God. And may we keep falling in love with Him – over and over again.
